Under the patronage of its Executive Director, Dr. Maher Jamal Eddine, Al-Ahsa Hospital organized a symposium on the “Multidisciplinary approach to Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis” in the lecture hall on June 14th, 2019 – corresponding to Shawwal 11th, 1440.
The Symposium was chaired and presented by the Chief of Medical Staff, Dr. Hisham Hussein Imam, with the presence of Deputy Executive director Mr. Fady Saadeh, Director of Medical and Ancillary services Dr. Fadi Aoun, Hospital directors, and a large group of physicians and healthcare professionals.
It is worth noting that the symposium was granted 8 CME hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
The Executive Director Dr. Maher Jamal Eddine, delivered a speech at the opening of the symposium on the importance of the safety culture in healthcare institutions in general and in Al Ahsa hospital in particular, and reiterated on one of the most important qualities of a safety culture which is having Safety as everyone’s first priority and responsibility. He pointed out the importance of the symposium topic since Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is a common and potentially life threatening condition.
The Symposium covered 8 Lectures. The first lecture was presented by Dr. Hisham H. Imam, the chairman of the Symposium and was titled “Venous Thromboembolism: An Overview”. The second Lecture was presented by Dr. Inas Al-Sherbini (Nephrology Consultant) and was titled “VTE prophylaxis in chronic kidney disease”. The third lecture was presented by Dr. Hamdy Eraky (General and Laparoscopic surgery Consultant) and was titled “General Risk Assessment for VTE Prophylaxis”. The forth lecture was presented by Dr. Hisham H. Imam (Ob& Gyn. Consultant) and was titled “Ante partum & Post partum Risk Assessment for Deep Venous Thrombosis”. The fifth lecture was presented by Dr. Al-Metwally Ali (Neurology Consultant) and was titled “Diagnosis and management of cerebral venous thrombosis”. The sixth lecture was presented by Dr.Samih Bashir (ICU Specialist) and was titled “Pulmonary Embolism: An Overview”. The seventh lecture was presented by Dr. Mohamed Tharwat (Internal Medicine Specialist) and was titled “The Role of Pharmacological Methods in Venous thromboembolism Prophylaxis”.The eighth lecture was presented by Dr.Magdy Abdulmonem (Cardiology Specialist) and was titled “The Role of Non-pharmacological Methods in the mangement of Venous thromboembolism”.
At the end of the Symposium Dr. Hisham H. Imam opened the floor to questions and discussions between the Lecturers and the attendees, and then he concluded by issuing the Symposium resolutions and recommendations.
