AL Ahsa Hospital participated in the (Obesity & Weight loss) event which was launched on February 12th, 2019 at King Faisal University – Collage of Education.
The aim of the event was to spread health awareness about the causes of obesity and how to prevent them, guidance’s were provided to the attendees on the most important scientific methods to lose weight and maintain the healthy body.
The seminars came out with the following conclusions:
BMI = Weight/ (Height)2
* If the Body Mass Index is above 25 the person is assumed to be overweight and this may expose him to certain health risks .The latest guidelines recommend the following:
1-Weight loss through enhancing overall nutrition status and following a personalized diet plan set in collaboration with a specialized healthcare provider (Dietitian).
2- Engaging into a physical activity regimen at least 150 min per week moderate aerobic exercise with 1-3 sessions per week resistance exercise.
3- Cognitive behavior therapy.
* If the body mass index is above 30, then pharmacotherapy in addition to lifestyle modifications is the best therapy . Referral to a specialized physician and a dietitian is the best way for guidance through this process.
* If the body mass index is above 40, bariatric surgeries are the best modalities. Referral to a specialized physician and a dietitian is the best way for guidance through this process.
At the end the hospital was honored by the collage.
