On Tuesday, the 5th of Rabi' al-Awwal 1440 AH, corresponding to the 13th of November 2018 AD, the Public Health Department, in the directorate of health affairs in Al-Ahsa launched, in collaboration with Al-Ahsa hospital, the seasonal flu vaccination campaign in the hospital premises, with the presence of Dr. Walid Al-Sultan, Assistant to the Director of Health Affairs for Public Health, members of his team, representatives of various public and private healthcare sectors, and leaders of universities and government institutions.
In this regard, Al-Ahsa hospital Management organized seminars, video presentations and set up informative booths, where speakers with subject-matter expertise in vaccination and the proper use of antibiotics, delivered lectures on the safety and effectiveness of Flu vaccines for all age groups.
Al-Ahsa hospital Executive Director, Dr. Maher Jamal Eddine, pointed out that vaccination is a social responsibility, whereby every person is responsible for keeping our society free from seasonal diseases. He also commended on the effective cooperation between Al-Ahsa hospital, as part of the private sector, and the Ministry of Health to deliver vaccination against seasonal diseases to as many people as possible, thus helping to achieve MOH vision in reaching the targeted immunization rate in Al-Ahsa Province.
The Assistant Director of Health Affairs for Public Health and his medical team also highlighted the successful cooperation between the Public Health Department and Al-Ahsa hospital in the various fields of healthcare targeting the local community, and acknowledged their important role in the launching of the seasonal Flu vaccination campaign, with a view to achieve the MOH vision in reaching the targeted immunization coverage of 135,000 Saudis and residents in Al-Ahsa province. He also underscored the vaccination effectiveness in reducing seasonal flu diseases and their adverse reactions.
Furthermore, Leaders and subject-matters experts agreed that vaccination is safe, effectively prevents seasonal flu and is available to all Saudis and residents. Dr. Al-Sultan also listed the categories targeted by the campaign, including children above 6 months of age, persons with chronic diseases, pregnant women, medical staff and all healthy people.
This ceremony was complementary to the official launching ceremony that took place in the headquarters of Al-Ahsa Health Affairs Directorate in partnership with Al-Ahsa hospital on the 19th of Safar 1440 AH, corresponding to October 28th, 2018 AD; with the presence of the Director of Health Affairs, Mr. Abdulhamid Al-Omair, the Executive Director of Al-Ahsa hospital, Dr. Maher Jamal Eddine, the Assistant to the Director of Health Affairs for Public Health, Dr. Walid Al-Sultan, as well as senior directors from Al-Ahsa Health Affairs Directorate and Al-Ahsa hospital.
The various stakeholders agreed to set up permanent medical teams in hospitals and healthcare centers and joint mobile teams assigned by Al-Ahsa Health Affairs Directorate and Al-Ahsa hospital, to provide vaccination in governmental and educational institutions, and public places such as malls, parks, etc. in order to reach as many members of the society as possible.
